Trundle attended St Edmund of Canterbury Catholic High School in Huyton, Liverpool. He was a late entrant into professional and League football, playing for Non-League teams Burscough, Chorley, Bamber Bridge, where he scored twelve goals in seven games, Stalybridge Celtic from 1st August to 26th December 1998, scoring six goals in thirteen games, Southport from 26th December 1998 to 19th July 2000 scoring six goals in twenty-seven starts and five games from the bench, and before joining Welsh Premier League club Rhyl on 19th July 2000 to 16th February 2001 where he plundered eleven goals in six games. This resulted in him being snapped up by Brian Flynn to play for Wrexham where he played seventy-four games (plus a further twenty-three as substitute) in all competitions and scored twenty-seven goals before leaving to rejoin Brian Flynn at Swansea City on 8th July 2003 on a free transfer. He instantly became a North Bank favourite with his goalscoring exploits and extraordinary tricks. In all competitions, to the end of the 2005/06 season, he had played one hundred and fifty-six times for Swansea City (with a further seventeen substitute appearances), scoring eighty-six goals. In his time at Swansea, Trundle became a minor celebrity in the game, with his extrovert displays of skill (or "showboating") bringing him to national attention via the Soccer AM television show on Sky Sports. In October 2005, he was the subject of a £750,000 transfer bid by Sheffield Wednesday which Swansea rejected. Days later, he signed an image rights contract with his club, offering a portion of revenues from merchandise featuring his image. He was believed to be the first player outside the Premier League to do so. Despite the best efforts of Swansea City, Lee Trundle agreed to sign for Bristol City on 2nd August 2007. It is believed Bristol City made four offers for the striker. Their final offer of £1,000,000 was accepted after Trundle handed in a transfer request. Trundle scored his first goals, a brace, for Bristol City against Scunthorpe on 25th August 2007. He had played sixty-one games for Bristol, of which thirty-two had been as a substitute, in scoring just eight goals and Trundle joined Leeds United on a one month loan on 9th January 2009. He made his debut for Leeds as a second half subsitute in the 2–0 loss to Carlisle United at Elland Road. He scored his first goal for the club on his first starting appearance, in a 2-0 win at Brighton on 17th January 2009. Leeds extended his stay at Elland Road until 10th March 2009 when he returned to Bristol City. Trundle revealed he was determined to force his way into the international scene by earning a call up for Republic of Ireland, for whom he qualifies through his grandfather. On 27th August 2009 he was sent on loan to his former club Swansea City initially until 1st January 2010, which eventuated to the rest of the season. He scored five times in two starts and eighteen games from the bench, as well as making one substitute appearance in the F.A. Cup. He was released by Bristol City and on 13th July 2010 he signed a three year contract with Welsh Premier League club Neath.
