Flynn joined United as a 17 year-old from Scottish club Petershill in October 1953. Despite being a highly rated member of the Juniors, he made only one appearance before going to Bradford Park Avenue in June 1957. Equally at home at Right Half or Inside Right, he gave them seven years’ good service, helping to win promotion to Division Three in 1960-61. He made one hundred and thirty-one League appearances, one of which was as a substitute, scoring nine goals before leaving in June 1966.
