After representing the Manchester League against the Irish League, he was recruited by United from Eccles Borough and was a free-scoring forward for the Reserves. He was limited to only four appearances in the first team and failed to score. It was a different story after he left Elland Road for Third Division North side, Doncaster Rovers, in January 1922. He netted twenty goals in one hundred and two League appearances, before he joined another Third Division North side, Crewe Alexandra, in August 1927. He spent a season with Crewe, scoring twice in thirteen League games before playing Non-League with Chester. He died in Manchester in 1968.
