Woffinden started his football career with Winterwell Athletic and joined Third Division
North Barnsley in 1938 and made two appearances for them in the 1938-39 season as they were
promoted to the Second Division as Champions of the Third Division North. He was not there
to celebrate the achievement as he had departed for Third Division North Hartlepools United
and made his debut for them at Left Half in a 4-3 win at Rochdale on 4th February 1939. He
scored his only goal for the Monkey-Hangers in a 3-2 home win over New Brighton on 15th
April 1939 and played his final game for them on 6th May 1939 in a 0-0 home draw with
Wrexham and had scored once in the fifteen League games he had played for them as they
finished up having to seek re-election. Woffinden rejoined his native Second Division
Barnsley in 1939 but by the time of the outbreak of World War Two he had not played any
games for them when the Football League fixtures came to a temporary end. He played one
guest game for Leeds United at Centre Half in the the 1942-43 Football League Northern
Section First Championship, in the 1-4 defeat by Huddersfield Town at Leeds Road on 19th
December 1942. After the War he did not play any games in the Football League but played for
Non-League Peterborough United. He died in 1987.
