Wilson was signed from Rothwell Amateurs, after a fine performance in a Reserve game
against Doncaster Rovers. His brief chance at Leeds was effectively ended when he was on the
receiving end of an 8-2 thrashing at West Ham United in February 1929. That was his final
game for Leeds and he moved to Halifax Town in March 1930, where he made eight League
appearances. He then joined Non-League Shrewsbury Town in August 1930 before moving to
Shirebrook. He came back into League football when he joined Mansfield Town and played
twenty-nine League games in the Third Division South in 1931-32 followed by another twelve
as they joined the Third Division North in 1932-33. He then joined Non-League club Sutton
United before coming back into League Football with Second Division Bradford Park Avenue
where he made a single League appearance in 1933-34. He moved to Third Division South
Bristol City the following season and after a while he established himself as the regular
goalkeeper at Ashton Gate and made sixty-seven League appearances for City, before crossing
the town to join Bristol Rovers for the 1938-39 season but he did not make a first team
appearance.
