Williams joined Leeds from Midland League club Denaby United in December 1948 and was a part-time footballer who also sold Insurance. He played his only game for Leeds at right back in the reverse Christmas fixture in 1948 at Elland Road against West Ham United, only days after he had signed for United. The Peacocks were ravaged by injury at the time and when left half Jim McCabe picked up an injury in the Christmas Day encounter at Upton Park they solved the problem by moving Jimmy Dunn to left half and giving Williams his debut in the reverse fixture at Elland Road two days later. He did not play another game for United and returned to Denaby United in August 1950. He died in 1979.
