Westlake started as a trainee with Ipswich Town and signed as a professional on 3rd
October 2002. He won the coveted Player of the Year award in 2004. He moved to Leeds for
£400,000 plus Dan Harding in part exchange on 4th August 2006. At Portman Road he had scored
sixteen goals in ninety League starts and twenty-three more from the bench, while in the Cup
and other games he had scored once in ten starts and two substitute appearances. Westlake
had featured in many of Leeds' matches in the 2006-07 Championship season, playing alongside
the likes of Shaun Derry, Kevin Nicholls and Jonathan Douglas in central midfield. Westlake
admitted he was frustated at being sidelined with a groin injury and wanted to help the club
avoid relegation. Leeds, however, were relegated in May 2007. On the 3rd March 2008,
Westlake went on an initial one-month loan to Brighton & Hove Albion. On the 3rd April 2008,
it was agreed that he would remain on loan at the Withdean for the remainder of the 2007/08
season. He returned to Leeds having made eleven League appearances and scored twice for
Brighton. Westlake joined Cheltenham Town on a three month loan on 24th October2008 and made
his debut on 25th October 2008 at MK Dons. On 24th January 2009 Westlake's contract was
cancelled by mutual consent, which left him free to join Cheltenham Town on a short term
contract until the end of the season. On 19th March 2009 he signed on for Oldham Athletic
until the end of the season as Cheltenham Town were having financial problems.He started
five League games for Oldham without scoring before returning to Cheltenham. While at
Cheltenham he scored twice in twenty-two League starts and started four F.A. Cup games
without scoring. He joined Wycombe Wanderers on a two year contract on 15th July 2009 and,
injuries curtailed his appearances to seven starts and two games from the bench in the League
and one game in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy before the end of the 2009-10 season. He had to
have surgery on his ankle and had not recovered by the end of the season, but was able to
feature in pre-season friendlies in 2010-11.
