Both Lewis and his twin brother Nathan attended Boston Spa School and both joined the Leeds United Academy at the age of nine in 2001. Each progressed through Boston Spa School and the Leeds Academy and at school they both gained a BTEC National Diploma in Sport Studies, while they also taken on as Juniors and then progressed through to the Reserve team at an early age. They were taken on a full-time contract by Leeds United in May 2011, after being a regulars with the Leeds United Academy since they were nine and being regulars in the Under-eighteen side and the Reserves. Lewis like his brother is adept in several defensive positions but settled in at left-back. Both twins were involved in the pre-season games, but mainly with the Reserves. Lewis was called up to the first-team squad for the League Cup encounter with Doncaster Rovers on 23rd August 2011 but was an unused substitute. Both twins travelled with the first team, towards the end of the 2011-12 season but neither made the bench. Both signed an extension of their contracts in May 2012 for another year, with an option of a further year. Both boys and the club hope that they can progress from the Junior to the Senior team similar to other players, such as Tom Lees and Aidan White, but it may mean gaining experience on loan with other clubs, which has been the path of other young prospects in recent years. Lewis captained the Leeds Reserve team and joined his brother Nathan on loan at Chester FC in March 2013. He made his debut for them in a Cheshire Senior Cup Semi-Final in a 3-0 home win over Witton Albion on 13th March 2013. He made his Conference North debut against Gloucester City in a 2-0 home win, three days later. He scored his first goal in the final minute of the home 1-0 win against Boston United, the goal securing promotion for the club. He started two Chester Senior Cup games and six Conference North games and also one game from the bench. Both Lewis and his brother Nathan signed a one year loan with Chester for the 2013-14 season.
