After playing with Spen Black & White and being on Newcastle United’s books before the
war, Leeds beat Newcastle United in a race to sign Price from the North Durham League side,
Consett. He worked as a Maintenance Engineer in Hebburn-on–Tyne and opted to play for Leeds
as an amateur, signing in September 1945. He made his Wartime debut on 3rd November 1945 at
Outside Right in a 1-2 defeat by Burnley at Elland Road. He didn’t play again until Xmas Day
when he played at Right Half in a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Elland Road. He held
down a fairly regular place at Right Half for the rest of the 1945-46 war-time season
missing only three more games and finishing with one goal in twenty-one League games. He
also played at Left Half in the Second Leg of the F.A. Cup Third Round Second Leg as United
lost to Middlesbrough 2-7 at Ayresome Park. He then played in six of the opening eight
games of the 1946-47 campaign, before losing his place to Gerry Henry and leaving Elland
Road at the end of the season. He did not play football again. He died in at Gateshead in
June 1995.
