Little is known about John O’Farrell, other than it was believed that he played for Hamilton Academical. He only played one game for Leeds United in the 1942-43 Football League Northern Section (First Championship) at Inside Left on 3rd October 1942 in a 1-7 defeat by Newcastle United at Elland Road. It is not thought that O’Farrell played professionally in the Football League.
