Lund: Jonathan

2007-2009 (Leeds Player Details)(Player Details)

Goalkeeper

Born: Leeds: 01-11-1988

Debut: None

6’1” 12st 4lb (2010)

A product of Farsley Celtic, and initially on the small side for a keeper Lund played mainly for the Under-Sixteens and Under-Eighteens but progressed to the bench in Reserve games and in United’s goalkeeper crisis in the pre-season for 2007-08 he was, at one time, United’s only keeper, that had been signed on a permanent basis. United took Scott Loach and Nick Hamman on their pre-season European tour and Mark Wilberforce took on second string duties, but Lund did once get a run with his second half substitute in the 3-3 draw with Harrogate Town in the previous year’s second string pre-season in July 2006. He was also an unused substitute in the Third Round FA Cup tie at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion on 6th January 2007. He had played regularly in the Leeds reserve team and had gained plenty of plaudits for his performances at Academy and at reserve team level. He gained international recognition when he was selected for the England Under-Nineteen squad against Switzerland. In 2007 he was short listed for Wickes Apprenticeship of the year Award reaching the last four along with gaining the Academy Player of the year award at Leeds. He was also The Observer Newspaper Scout Tip for the top in the 2007-08 season. He was released by Leeds on 2nd February 2009. He had trials with Burnley but he joined Grimsby Town on a free transfer on 20th March 2009 until the end of the season, when he was released by the Mariners. Lund went on trial to Burnley on the recommendation of ex-Leeds keeper Phil Hughes as they only had two goalkeepers, Diego Penny and Brian Jensen, on their books. However, he was always third in the pecking order and while he was not given a contract he was the unused goalkeeper substitute for Burnley's Reserves against Hull City on 30th September 2009. On 7th October 2009 Burnley completed the signing of Lund until the end of the season. The twenty-year-old had two trial spells with the Clarets and played for the reserves in the 2008-09 season against Carlisle and Morecambe. He was also in goal in the reserve game against Liverpool on 7th October 2009. He was loaned out by Burnley firstly to Rotherham United from 1st January to 12th March 2010 and then to Barnsley from 13th March 2010 to the end of the season. He was unused substitute for Rotherham against Bournemouth on 2nd February, at Darlington on 6th February and against Dagenham and Redbridge on 9th February 2010. He was unused substitute for Barnsley against Crystal Palace on 13th March 2010. He played in Burnley's final Reserve game of the season against Blackburn Rovers on 4th May 2010. He was released by Burnley on 11th May 2010.
