Little is known about Hubert Hirst, other than it is thought that he was on the books of Bradford Park Avenue. He never played for Bradford Park Avenue other than in the season 1942-43, when he made eighteen appearances. He also guested for Middlesbrough once in the same season. He only played one game for Leeds United. It was at Right Back in the game with Bradford City at Elland Road in a 1-5 defeat in the 1943-44 Football League Northern Section (First Championship). It is not thought that Hirst played professionally in the Football League.
