He returned to Leeds a few weeks later and played three consecutive games at Right Half in the Second Championship with a 3-1 home win over Bradford Park Avenue, a 2-0 home win over Barnsley but the following week in the reverse fixture at Oakwell they went down 2-3. He also played eleven games for Tottenham Hotspurs in the first season of the war, in 1939-40, and later guested for one game with Aldershot in 1943-44. He signed for Tottenham Hotspur in March 1946 but he never played a senior game at White Hart Lane and left for Southern League Gillingham in May 1947. Dorling played ten League games in the Third Division South before going into Non-League football with Snowdown Colliery Welfare, where he finished his football career. He died in 1987.
