an unsuccessful trial with Manchester City when he was sixteen. He worked as an electrician
at Harton Colliery before joining Leeds from South Shields in November 1953. He could not
dislodge veteran Jimmy Dunn at Leeds and his only appearance came in the final game of the
1953-54 season at Hull when Dunn was unable to play because of injury. In November 1955 he
signed for Gateshead and made one hundred and eighteen League appearances and notched one
goal in the lower Leagues, together with three F.A. Cup appearances, before retiring in
June 1960.
