A Welsh Schoolboy International, Davies started with Fleur de Lis Welfare before moving
to Lovells Athletic. In March 1935 he joined Second Division Charlton Athletic but in his
time there he did not play in the first team. He moved to Third Division North side Barrow
in June 1938 and became a regular, making forty-two appearances in the League and scoring
three goals, two of which were from the penalty spot. He also played one F.A. Cup tie.
WorldWar Two brought his Football League career to a halt as Barrow did not compete in
any competitions in the seasons of 1940-41 to 1944-45, inclusive, because of Barrow's
remote location. He did play for Barrow in the 1939-40 season, scoring five times in
fifteen appearances, and played once in the 1945-46 season without scoring. He also made
guest appearances for Leeds United Charlton Athletic and York City. For Leeds he played
in the 1943-44 Football League Northern Section (Second Championship) in which he totalled
six appearances and scored one goal. His first game was at Right Half as United suffered a
1-4 defeat at Leeds Road. Four weeks later he was back and played Left Half in a 2-1 home
win over York City and was at Right Half the following week as they were humbled 1-8 in
the reverse fixture at Bootham Crescent. The next two games saw him at Left Half in the
two games against Sheffield United which saw a 1-3 reversal at Bramall Lane, while it was
his goal that gave Leeds victory at Elland Road. His final game was three weeks later as
United won 3-1 at Chesterfield. The 1943-44 season also saw him make six appearances for
Charlton Athletic and one for York City, both without scoring. When peace returned he was
back at Barrow and played thirty-three games in the League and two in the F.A. Cup before
moving on to Second Division Millwall in July 1947. He featured in twenty-seven League
and one F.A. Cup tie as Millwall were relegated to the Third Division South and he played
just four more games before retiring. He died in 1994.
