Challinor started with Non-League Witton Albion before joining First Division Stoke City
in the 1937-38 season. He stayed at the Victoria Ground for two seasons and played
forty-three League games and three more in the F.A. Cup without scoring. He later joined
Irish club Linfield. He guested for Leeds United in the 1943-44 season. He played all of
his games at Left Back, completing five games in the First Championship and nine in the
Second Championship. Apart from Leeds, Challinor also played for several other clubs
during the Second World War. He guested with Nottingham Forest in 1940-41, when he played
fourteen games and 1941-42 when he added another nine games. He also played for his own
club Stoke five times in 1940-41 and again five times in 1945-46. In 1942-43 he played
once for Derby County, ten times for Doncaster Rovers and once for Notts County and he
also played six games for them in 1943-44. He did not score for anyone in War-time
fixtures. It is not thought that Challinor played in the Football League after the War.
He died in 1981.
