J. M. Brown, according to the newspapers of the day, was an amateur who played for Scottish Club Queens Park, who normally operated as an Outside-Left. When he arrived to play at Elland Road he had only played three Scottish League games in that position in the 1938-39 season, before the War intervened. He went on to play for the Spiders after the War, playing all of his games as an Outside-Left, with the exception of two games, one at Inside-Left in the 1945-46 season, and one at Outside-Right in the 1947-48 season. Including his three Pre-War appearances he played sixteen Scottish League games, without scoring, and six Scottish League Cup Games when he scored twice. He also played four times in the Glasgow Cup and once in the Merchant Charity Cup. He started with Queens Park on 17th September 1938 and left on 2nd October 1948. (Information kindly supplied by Neil Roche). His only game with United was at Inside Right at the Shay in a 1-2 defeat by Halifax Town, in which he got the Leeds goal. It is not thought that J.M. Brown played professionally with any club in the Football League but did continue playing for Queens Park after the War
