He signed for City in 1919 after the First World War but had not made his Football League debut when the club was suspended from the Football League. He was one of the players to go under the hammer at the Metropole Hotel Auction and he was sold to Grimsby Town for £200 in October 1919. He scored twice in eight League games before joining Non-League Gresley Rovers, but came back to League Football with Third Division South Bristol Rovers in 1922. He played sixteen League and three F.A. Cup games before joining Third Division North side Barrow in 1924. He scored three times in thirty-four League appearances and one goal in eight F.A. Cup ties before finishing his career in Non-League football with Hednesford Town, Walsall LMS, Scarborough, and finally returning to his first club Tinsley Working Men’s Club. He died in 1968.
