Outside Right

Born: Unknown: Unknown

Debut: v Stockport County (a): 05-09-1914

Height & Weight: Unknown

Rothwell started with Accrington Stanley and joined Second Division Leeds City in 1914. Not much is known about him, other than he returned to play for Accrington Stanley after playing just one game for Leeds City. The game was at Outside Right in a 1-3 defeat at Stockport County in the second fixture of the 1914-15 season. City had trouble finding a regular Outside Right in that season. Simpson Bainbridge had the number seven jersey in the opening game in a 0-1 defeat by Fulham at Elland Road. Rothwell was given his chance in the second game but Simpson Bainbridge was back for the third game. Arthur Price took the spot in the fourth game and Webb Richardson was given his chance for two games in games five and six. Ivan Sharpe was switched from the Outside Left position for four games ending in game ten, before Simpson Bainbridge was given an extended run for fourteen matches ending in game twenty-four before John Jackson had one game there in game twenty-five to become the sixth player to figure on the right wing, before Arthur Price had one more game in game twenty-six. Ernie Goodwin became the seventh number seven for seven games which ended at game thirty-three, before Simpson Bainbridge was back for two games until game thirty-five and Ernie Goodwin was back for the final three fixtures, but Rothwell never figured in the City team after his debut game.
