Debut: v Grimsby Town (h): 13-12-1913

Johnson started with Bedlington in the North-East League before joining Leeds City in October 1910. He had a long wait before he was called up for his only game for City at home to Grimsby Town in December 1913 where he helped City to a 4-1 victory as the replacement for Simpson Bainbridge. He stayed with City until 1914 when he joined the local North Leeds Athletic.
