At Elland Road he became a crowd favourite and in his first spell he scored thirty-three goals in eighty-four League starts and one game from the bench. He left for Portsmouth in June 1987, but after only one goal in twenty League starts he returned to Elland Road in March 1988 and scored seventeen goals in seventy-six League games and another one from the bench until Howard Wilkinson brought in Lee Chapman to replace him and he left for Middlesbrough in January 1990. He scored nineteen goals in sixty starts and three games from the bench before moving to Hearts in July 1991 for £400,000. There he scored fifteen goals in sixty-four starts in the Scottish League before he returned South and joined Bristol City for £350,000 in July 1993. At Ashton Gate he scored eleven times in fifty-seven League games of which twelve were from the bench, before joining Plymouth Argyle in September 1995 on a free transfer. At Home Park he scored six League goals from twenty-seven games, of which three were from the bench. In July 1996 he moved to Brighton and Hove Albion, for £35,000, where he completed his Football League career, retiring in December 1997. Already Captain of the Norwegian Under-Twenty-One team he was seen as a good future prospect, but he soon forced his way into the Leeds team. Such was his progress that he quickly became a full Norwegian International, representing them in Euro 2000 and in the World Cup in 2002, and was voted Leeds United Young Player of the Year in his first season. He was capped by the Norway at Under-Twenty-one level thirty-four times and he scored one goal, while at full International level he respresented his country on Twenty-seven occasions, including seven as a substitute, without scoring. After being a regular in the Leeds team for his first four seasons and figuring strongly both in the EPL and in European competitions, his career was blighted by injury and he hardly played for the next two seasons. Although a skilful and forceful midfield player his aerial prowess made him dangerous in the opponent’s penalty box and Terry Venables used him as an emergency striker on several occasions. A chronic knee injury started to plague him by the end of the 2002-03 season and with Norway pressing for qualification for Euro 2004 they needed his services. Leeds provided medical evidence and requested that he should not play. Norway disregarded the request and played him in all three games that he was called up for. He reported back to Elland Road with knee ligament damage. He missed virtually the whole of the 2003-04 season and sought specialist advice in the U.S.A. In a pre-season friendly match at Pitea in Sweden he snapped his cruciate ligaments and damaged his cartilage. He was out of action for another year. Leeds were, by then, in financial melt-down and, as his wage was excessive to United’s status, he was loaned to Aston Villa in August 2005, returning at the end of January 2006, having made eight starts and six substitute appearances in the League. A bid by David O’Leary, then the Aston Villa Manager, to make the move permanent fell through. He returned to his native Norway, joining SK Brann on a free transfer on 31st August 2006. While at Leeds he scored eight times in one hundred and sixteen starts and twenty-seven as a subsitute in League games, six goals in nine starts and one from the bench in the F.A. Cup, scored twice in seven starts in the League Cup, five in thirty-one starts and three from the bench in European Competition and started once and came off the bench once without scoring in the Play-Off Finals. He became captain of Brann at the start of the 2008 season, and his contract with the club was extended to 2010 in May 2008. By the end of the 2008-09 season he had played thirty-eight games for Brann but had scored just one goal. It was an important one, being the winning goal against arch-rivals Rosenborg BK on 11th August 2007. He scored eight goals in eighty-two games for Brann, before rejoining Sogndal on 28th February 2011. He had scored once in seven appearances to June 2011, in his second spell with his hometown team. He went on the gain international honours for England at Youth level, before gaining nine England Under-Twenty-Three caps, represented the Football League and was capped twenty-two times at full England International level. He scored fifteen times in one hundred and fifteen games for City, of which seven were as a substitute, before joining West Bromwich Albion in July 1979 for £650,000. He stayed at the Hawthorns for two seasons scoring twenty-three goals in seventy-six starts and one from the bench and moved to Leeds in August 1981 for £930,000. Unfortunately he failed to love up to his price-tag, scoring once in thirty-one starts and Leeds could not afford to keep him once they had lost their First Division status. He went to Real Betis for one season, returning to the club in August 1983. He had a brief loan spell with Manchester United in May 1984, but did not feature in their first team and, after scoring four goals in twenty-five starts, and two games from the bench, in his second spell at Elland Road, he left to join Coventry City for £65,000 in October 1984. After that he was constantly on the move, after scoring twice in eighteen starts at Highfield Road, in July 1985 he returned to Old Trafford for £50,000. After two goals in twenty games, one of which was as a substitute, he moved from Salford back to his original club, Manchester City, for £30,000 in October 1987. His second spell with City lasted just eight starts without scoring, and, after starting two games on loan to Bolton Wanderers in December 1987 and three starts while on loan to Port Vale in December 1987, he joined Hull City in March 1988. He made just eleven starts, without scoring and then had a spell in Portugal before joining Bolton Wanderers in November 1988, which produced only two starts and one game from the bench, before his final move to Sunderland in February 1989, where he made one start before playing for a succession of non-league and overseas clubs, none of which lasted for long.(Leeds United Player Details) |

He started as first choice left-half and played eight games at the start of the 1946-47 season, before being displaced and spending the rest of his time at Leeds in the Reserves. He signed schoolboy forms in December 1983 and became an Apprentice in July 1985. He signed professional forms for Leeds in July 1987. He had by then starred with the Juniors and Reserves and soon made his first team debut in November 1987. He went on to score four League goals in two hundred and eleven League appearances of which ten were as a Reserve, before surprisingly joining Blackburn Rovers for £2.75 million in October 1993, where he finished player of the year in his first season. Throughout his career he was unfortunate with injuries and he missed much of Blackburn's Championship-winning season of 1994-95. Batty made fifty-three League starts and one substitute appearance and scored just one goal before he moved on from Ewood Park, when Kevin Kegan paid £3.75 million in March 1996 to take him to Newcastle United. On the international front Batty had been called up to the England Under-Twenty-One team in 1988, gaining seven caps at that level. He also gained England “B” honours, his first in November 1989 and getting five caps at that level. He was capped forty-two times by England, ten of which were as a substitute. In December 1998, David O'Leary brought him back to Leeds when he paid £4.4 million. He had made eighty-one League starts and two substitute appearances and scored three goals while at St James' Park. Unfortunately Batty's second spell at Leeds was marred by injury and he was released by the club when his contract ended in June 2004. He was ever-present as they won the GM Vauxhall Conference title and promotion to the Football League and he was recognized by England who selected him at semi-professional level with a game against Italy. He went on loan to Aldershot in March 1990, making seven League appearances, but on his return he was in such good form that Second Division Brighton and Hove Albion stepped in and took him on a £30,000 transfer in March 1991, after fifty Football League games for the Fourth Division side. After sixty-eight League starts and one appearance as a substitute for the South Coast team, it took a fee of £350,000, which averted the threat of closure of the club, to bring him to Leeds in April 1993. Although officially still contracted to Brighton until the end of the season United gained special dispensation from the FA and their opponents, Coventry City, to allow Beeney to make his debut, as there was nothing of consequence at stake, in the final game of the 1992-93 season. A big keeper, his meticulous planning left him well prepared as he keenly watched videos of potential penalty–takers. He proved a capable deputy for John Lukic, taking over from him when his form dipped. His contract was extended in June 1996 for a further two years, but he had to retire due to injuries sustained in a Reserve game at Stoke City when he ruptured an Achilles tendon in March 1999. He joined Doncaster Rovers in December 2000, but never played a first team game, and moved to Non-League Dover Athletic in August 2001. He then played for Non-League Sittingbourne, who he also managed from October 2001 until he went on to become the Chelsea Academy Goalkeeping coach in March 2005. He also ran a successful executive chauffeur business for several years. He scored three goals in one hundred and fifty-three starts and two more from the bench before moving to Leyton Orient in October 1989. There he scored once in thirty-one starts before he left for Sheffield United in July 1990. He had five years at Bramall Lane, scoring seven goals in one hundred and sixty-eight League games, of which six were from the bench before moving to Elland Road in August 1995. He was never really established at Leeds, making just twenty-two League appearances, of which three were from the bench and spent much of his time in the Leeds Reserves. He left for Manchester City in February 1997 and once more failed to secure a regular place, making just ten starts and three from the bench in League games in the eighteen months he was at Maine Road. He was loaned out to Port Vale in December 1997, where he started five League games, and in March 1998, he was loaned to West Bromwich Albion, where he started eight League games before moving permanently to Port Vale in August 1998. He was there for almost a year, scoring three goals in thirty-three starts and two as a substitute in League games. He joined Blackpool in July 1999 and made fifteen starts and three more as a substitute. He then moved to Chester City on 4th July 2000, where he started thirty-one League games. After again being a regular in the 1986-87 season, his career almost came to an end with a badly broken leg in an F. A. Cup tie at Goodison Park on 21st January 1987. His next move was in November 1974 on loan to Fulham, where he scored once in six League starts, before he left Roker Park in February 1975 for Huddersfield Town. He went on to represent Scotland twice and remained a regular in the fine Leeds team of the time until the emergence of Terry Cooper at Left Back in the 1967-68 season. He had scored fifteen goals in over two hundred League games. He left Leeds to join Leicester City on 29th September 1967. At Filbert Street he made forty-nine League appearances before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion in July 1969. Once more he was first choice at Fratton Park and scored ten goals in one hundred and forty-four starts, before Billy Bremner brought him to Leeds on a free transfer on 4th July 1988. He gave Leeds solid service scoring four goals in fifty-one League starts before he gave way to Chris Fairclough and Peter Haddock as Leeds gained promotion from the Second Division. On 9th February 1990, he was sold to Stoke City for £175,000. There he was once more a regular, scoring three goals in seventy-five League appearances, one of which was as a substitute. He was loaned to Bradford City in February1992 and made six appearances at Valley Parade before signing for them on 20th July 1992 for £175,000. He scored three goals in thirty-nine League appearances, one of which was as a substitute. He moved north of the border on 10th December 1993, when he joined Dundee on a free transfer. There he started fifity-two Scottish League games and two more from the bench and twice found the net before returning south with Exeter City on a free transfer on 18th August 1995. There he gave sterling service scoring ten goals in one hundred and thirty-five League starts and twelve games as a substitute, before retiring on 22nd September 2001, having been Player/Manager since January 2000. He went on loan to Raith Rovers from 31st March to 31st May 1998, but made only one substitute appearance, before joining Blackpool on a free transfer on 19th June 1998. He made just one start and one substitute appearance in the League. He was released by the club in March 1999. He then moved abroad for two years playing, in Italy, with FC Castellaneta, from July 1999 to December 2000, and Grottaglie, from January to February 2001. He next joined Scarborough on 8th March 2001 and became hot property as he scored eight goals in sixty-five League appearances, of which eight were as a substitute. Unfortunately Scarborough went into administration and were forced to reduce their wages bill. On 7th February 2003 Yeovil Town took him on trial but he was only there one week, in which time he made just one appearance, as a substitute in the Conference, before Doncaster Rovers stepped in and signed him on 14th February 2003. He made his debut with Rovers on 15th February 2003, in a 2-0 away win at Kettering Town, but could not establish himself and, after scoring three times in twelve starts and three game from the bench, he left for Tamworth on 1st October 2003. He scored once in thirty-four League games, one being as a substitute, before he left for Halifax Town on 24th September 2004. He stayed at the Shay until the end of the season after scoring once in twenty-two starts and three games from the bench in the League. He left on 31st May 2005 and later played with Grantham Town, Alfreton Town, where he started twenty-three League games and came off the bench five times, and Scarborough once more. He played twelve League games during his second stint there. He was then player/manager at Sutton Town before joining Goole Town in 2007. Blunt, who managed Sutton Town for six months in 2007, became the coach of sports and physical education at Wakefield Independent School while playing for Goole. In February 2008, he was appointed as chief scout for North-Eastern League Glapwell. He went on to start four and come on as a substitute three times in League games. He never made the top grade again. He left for Rotherham United on a free in February 1997, where he made thirteen League appearances, and later moved to Carlisle United in August 1997, where he stayed until being released in May 2000 and scored twice in forty-six League appearances, which included four as a substitute. He later had spells with Bohemians in Ireland in 2000 and English Non-League teams Gateshead, from December 2000 and Brandon United in 2002, Coxhoe Athletic in 2004 and Shildon from August 2005. He is best remembered as a member of the Leeds team that lifted the F.A. Youth Cup, twice beating Manchester United in the two-legged final. Widely accepted as the best player outside the EPL, he had represented England at Youth level and he went on to represent them thirteen times at Under-Twenty-One level and once at full-level. He had signed professional with Charlton in April 1994 and had scored eight goals in forty-six starts. He made his Leeds debut in October 1996 and had been pencilled in to learn his trade from Gary McAllister, but this was scuppered when he left for Coventry City, before the new season started, and Bowyer was thrown in at the deep end. His plight was not helped by a serious eye injury that kept him out for two months, but he went on to score four goals from thirty-two starts in the League and was limited to just one Reserve team start to prove his fitness. He went on to Captain the England Under-Twenty-One team and scored thirty-eight goals from one hundred and ninety-six starts and seven games as a substitute and many Cup and European appearances as Leeds battled on several fronts in his almost seven years at Elland Road. It could have been more if not for two long exhausting trials, but he played on regardless, but the mental toll saw his form drop towards the end of his Leeds career and he made ten starts for West Ham United, when he was sold to them on a short term contract in January 2003. He moved on to Newcastle United on a Free Transfer in July 2003. Bowyer returned to his beloved West Ham United in June 2006 after he had scored six goals in sixty-one starts and another eighteen games from the bench in the League, while at St James's. He finally regained his form and scored four goals in thirty-four starts and seven from the bench. He left for Birmingham City in January 2009 and went on to score ten goals in seventy-five starts and six more from the bench in the League. He went on to become a regular with the Juniors scoring eleven goals in the League and four in the F. A. Youth Cup as Leeds won it and the Northern Intermediate League in 1996-97. He did make one appearance for Leeds as a substitute, and twice sat unused on the bench, but despite injuries he featured quite often for the Reserves in 1997-98. A heel injury saw him miss much of the 1998-99 season and after the same injury still persisted in the early part of the following season, in November 1999, he was sent back to Ireland to recuperate and his final season of a three year contract came to an end. He returned for the start of the 2000-01 season and after first being recommended to have an operation, the club placed him on a six month rehabilitation course. By the end of the season he had managed several reserve games and had played without problems and had even represented the Northern Ireland Under-Twenty-One team on two occasions. It was while scoring a goal for them against Malta that he had a recurrence of his ankle injury. He had to have an operation to clean the ankle out and remove some floating bone. The injury stopped him playing until March and by the time he was able to play again his one year contract was almost at an end. He went on trial with Hull City and Rushden & Diamonds but nothing materialised and he was released and returned to Ireland. Only eighteen when he broke into the Sunderland team and he went on to score sixteen goals in thirty-one starts and forty-eight games from the bench in the League, played twice in the F.A. Cup without scoring and managed five goals in eight starts and three substitute appearances in the League Cup. He signed for Leeds United in a £5 million deal on 29th July 1999, after growing frustrated with his inability to break into the Sunderland first team ahead of Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips. He quickly established himself as a fans' favourite at Elland Road with a hat-trick in only his second appearance in a Leeds Shirt. The young striker, was determined to join Leeds United because of David O'Leary's youth policy, turned down a move to link up with former Leeds boss, George Graham, at Tottenham Hotspur. He was soon turning in some impressive performances, and proved a vital addition to the squad with his ability to hold the ball up and deceptive turn of pace. Bridges went on to score over twenty goals in his first season at Elland Road and was a key player for Leeds in their European campaign. His reward was to become a regular in the England Under-Twenty-One squad, and started the opening match of the European Championships against Slovakia. Injury robbed Bridges of taking part in Leeds' historic Champions League run in 2000-01, and he was once again out of most of 2001-02, but made his comeback in Gary Kelly's testimonial in May 2002. Bridges played in nine games at the start of the 2002-03 season but injury was once again to force him to sit on the sidelines. He managed a few more appearances in 2003-04, and in February 2004 he joined Newcastle United on loan for three months, making six appearances as a substitute. After that loan ended he returned to Elland Road. He had scored nineteen goals in fifty-six League games, of which sixteen had been as a substitute and had not found the net in one start and one game as a substitute and he signed for Bolton Wanderers in June 2004, where he hoped to have better fortune in his search for regular football. Before he could make an appearance for Bolton though, he was loaned out back to Sunderland. In a three month spell he impressed sufficiently to earn himself a permanent contract, and in December 2004, the deal was done. After scoring once in five starts and fourteen substitute appearances he was not retained, and, in July 2005, he moved on a free transfer to Bristol City. He failed to score in eleven League games, seven of which were as a substitute, but did score in one substitute appearance in the League Cup, but as he could not cement a place, he was loaned to Carlisle United in November 2005. He soon established himself and signed for them permanently on a free transfer in January 2006. He found his scoring touch with ten goals in fifteen games and two substitute appearances and totalled fifteen goals in twenty-nine starts and two games from the bench in the League and one goalless substitute appearance in the League Cup. He then left for Hull City on 31st August 2006 for £350,000 on a three year contract, but once again he failed to cement a first team spot and was loan out to Sydney FC in the A-League for six months in October 2007, where he scored twice in nine appearances, before he returned. Hull were duly promoted to the EPL and in July 2008 Bridges was loaned out to Carlisle for a year. He scored seven times in twelve starts and eighteen games from the bench in the League, one substitute appearance without scoring in the F.A. Cup, one start and one game from the bench without scoring in the League Cup and one goal in his only appearance in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy. When his contract with Hull City ran out in June 2009, he had scored twice in nine starts and thirteen games from the bench in the League and had scored once in two appearances in the League Cup. He had an unsuccessful trial with Norwich City before signing with MK Dons on 5th August 2009. He did not stay long with the Dons, making only two appearances, one in the League and one in the League Cup, and returned to Australia to sign for the Newcastle Jets in a contract that ran to 30th September 2010. He scored six goals in fifteen appearances in his first season with the Jets. In December 2009 his contract was extended to December 2011. On 22nd July 2010 Bridges was made Captain of Newcastle Jets. He scored once in seven starts for Newcastle in the 2010-11 season. Bridges announced his retirement 29th April 2011. The former Newcastle Jets Captain who was immensely popular with his peers and club management was not lost to the Newcastle Jets after accepting a position with the club, as International Football & Business Development Manager. Bridges will share his time with the Jets Commercial team and involving his passion and knowledge for the game by working with the soon to be established Jets Academy to develop and enhance the junior talent in the region. He went on to score ten times in thirty-six appearances before being signed by GIF Sundsvall, where he made his first team debut in 1987. He went on to score thirteen goals in fifty-five appearances in three seasons for them before joining IFK Norrkoping. He scored seven times in nine games and had already been capped at senior level after representing the Swedish Under-Twenty-Threes four times and scoring twice. He was undoubtably World Class and topped the UEFA 1992 competition goalscorers. He had joined Italian club Parma in 1990 and his fame rose as he excelled at both club and international level. However, his career was then blighted by injury and he had scored twenty-seven times in forty-seven appearances for Sweden, but it was greatly minimised by an injury sustained while playing for Sweden in a qualifying game for the UEFA Euro 1996 when he broke his foot in that game on 16th November 1994. Subsequently, after being given only six months to recover, he was rushed back, both at club and country level but he never regained his former fitness and brilliance. He was squeezed out of the Parma team after scoring twenty League goals in one hundred and eighteen starts and eleven from the bench in five years and announced that he would leave to find regular first team football. After turning down three Italian clubs, he signed for Leeds on a two and a half year contract as Howard Wilkinson paid £4.5million as he sought to pair him with Tony Yeboah, in potentially, a highly lethal combination. The idea was fine, but Brolin's fitness was not, and he slid into the background at Elland Road, scoring just four League goals in seventeen starts and two substitute appearances. Brolin and Wilkinson did not see eye to eye on his role in the team, with Brolin not wishing to put in the hard yards. Brolin started looking for another club in the summer of 1996, but had failed to find one by the start of the season and Wilkinson had announced that he was prepared to lose £2million to rid the club of his excessive wages. Wilkinson fined him £12,000, a weeks wage, for each week he missed pre-season training. Wilkinson made it known in the press that he would rather have anyone but Brolin in his team and had saved the club £72,000 due to Brolin's non-attendance at pre-season training by the time he joined Zurich on loan on 20th August 1996.There was a change of managers at Leeds, with George Graham replacing Howard Wilkinson. He had played just three League games for Zurich when Graham insisted on his returning to Leeds immediately. Brolin wanted to stay until the Christmas break to regain his fitness.He was told to return or face legal consequences. On 13th November 1996 a proposed loan to Sampdoria fell through on medical grounds. Leeds urged Brolin to return to Yorkshire for a second opinion. On 24th December 1996 Brolin paid £500,000 of his own money to fund the loan move to Parma for the rest of the season. Brolin did not return to first team duty until 23rd February 1997, as a second half substitute and made four more substitute appearances in March. He made eleven appearances before the end of the season, all but three as a substitute. Parma were not interested in signing him at the end of the loan. Graham omitted him from his first team squad for the new season. It was a case of find another club or play in the reserves. On 29th August 10997 a loan deal with Real Zarogoza fell through and, on 15th September, a deal with Hearts fell through. Brolin continued to train and play with the Leeds reserves. On 6th October he was fined £90,000 for missing a fixture to attend a funeral. 28th October 1997 saw Leeds pay Brolin £140,000 to terminate his contract. He spent much of his time there in the Reserves and was also loaned to Leicester City in March 1987, starting once and making four substitute appearances at Filbert Street, and to Doncaster Rovers in October 1987, where he made six starts. He was sold to Rotherham United in November 1987 for £30,000 and there found his level, featuring regularly and scoring thirteen goals in eighty-five starts and another twenty from the bench. In October 1990 he returned to Partick Thistle for £45,000, and scored five times in twenty-six appearances, before moving to Scunthorpe United for £40,000 in August 1991. He scored eight goals in forty-three games before rejoining Rotherham United for £20,000 in February 1993. He started two games and came from the bench twice in his second spell at Millmoor. In only his fourth game back for Rotherham, he fractured his skull against Plymouth Argyle on 13th March 1993. For a time the injury was life threatening and brought a premature end to his career. An obvious leader of men he became the United Captain and remained as such through his long and illustrious Leeds career making over two hundred and fifty appearances before he fell out with Leeds Manager Raich Carter and left on 27th October 1954, the season before before Leeds finally obtained promotion. He went back to Somerset with Bristol City and captained them to promotion, scoring twenty goals in two hundred and thirty-one League appearances before retiring in June 1960. In late January 1987, he went on trial to Leeds United and made four starts for the Leeds Reserve team. Two were at right back and two at right half. He scored twice, while playing at right back. Billy Bremner did not sign him and he returned north in mid February 1987. He joined Heart of Midlothian on 11th July 1987 for £175,000 and made twenty-four League appearances with them, of which one was as a substitute, before leaving in December 1988 for Dunfermline Athletic for £25,000. There he started Fifteen League games, two of which were off the bench. He was loaned to Fulham in December 1989 and made six League starts. He played with Hamilton Academical for a second time when he joined them in July 1990. He scored six goals in thirty-three with them, which included four games as a substitute. He then moved to Kilmarnock in 1991 where he scored four goals in forty-one games, before moving to Ayr United in June 1993. He scored five goals in fifty-eight starts with Ayr United before joining Dumbarton in August 1995. He was a product of the Westfield Sports High School, which also produced Harry Kewell, Jamie McMaster, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and a host of other Australian International Footballers, Cricketers, Swimmers and other Athletes. After playing Junior football with Greenacre, Sydney Olympic and St George in New South Wales, he joined Sydney United in 1997, scoring five goals in starting fifty-two games and making eight more appearances from the bench, before moving to Parramatta Power in August 1999. He played twenty-five times, including one as a substitute, and scored three goals before he was transferred to Leeds United for £250,000 in August 2000. He had already made his debut for Australia at Under Twenty-Three level and on joining Leeds gave up the chance to play for the Olyroos Olympic squad in 2000 to concentrate on making the grade at Elland Road. He was bought initially for future potential and as cover in midfield and defence, but was soon pressed into service due to an injury crisis at Elland Road. He played at home to Charlton Athletic, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Lazio and away to Manchester United, Besiktas, Bradford City and Tranmere Rovers, a true baptism of fire in under strength Leeds teams. It was back to the Reserves where he featured regularly, except when injured, but did manage another two first team appearances at home to Bolton Wanderers and away to Tottenham Hotspur, once again in United teams severely depleted by injury. After a trial with Feyenoord, he was released at the end of his contract in June 2003. He had started five EPL games and was once a substitute, while he also started one League Cup game and three European Cup ties and being a substitute once in the latter, but did not score for United. Barnsley signed him in October 2003. He made his Barnsley debut at Wycombe Wanderers in October 2003 and went on to score once in twenty-two League games, including six from the bench, and played four times in the F.A. Cup that season. Again a regular in the side throughout the 2004/2005 campaign, Burns turned into one of the Reds most consistent and underrated players with a string of fine displays in midfield. He scored twice in thirty-four League games, including one from the bench, and made one substitute appearance in the F.A. Cup and also started one League Cup game. The Aussie netted three goals in the League from thirty-two starts and one game from the bench, scored twice in the League Cup from one start and one game from the bench, while he also made three starts and one game from the bench in the F.A. Cup and was in fine form alongside Stephen McPhail during the run in. He left for Polish Champions, Wisla Krakow, in March 2006 where he started promisingly and stayed until the end of the 2007-08 season, making twenty-two appearances. He had made one more appearance for them in the 2008-09 season, before he followed his former coach at Wisla, Dan Petrescu, to Romania to play with Unirea Urziceni. In his time there he made nineteen appearances before he decided the time was right to return home to Australia, signing with Perth Glory for the start of the 2009-10 season on a three year contract and was appointed the Club Captain. His International career with Australia has been long and chequered. After playing for the Australian Under-Twenty-Three side he received his first call-up to the full International team in 2000 for the game against Scotland, from the bench, and in 2001 against Columbia, which was his last International appearance for several years. Although he was called up for the Australian squad for the 2-0 loss to Kuwait in September 2006, he did not receive his third cap until the game against Denmark in 2007, when he came on as a substitute. In the same year he came off the bench to earn his fourth cap against China as Australia triumphed 2-0. He received a late call up to the Australian squad against Nigeria as a replacement for Tim Cahill, and came on at the start of the second half. He gained another cap in a friendly game against Ghana in Sydney, where he started the match, and came off in the seventy-ninth minute. His next cap was as a seventy-seventh minute substitute as Australia beat Holland in Eindhoven 2-1, with Harry Kewell scoring from the spot and Josh Kennedy getting a second on 6th September 2008. On 10th September 2008 Burns was called up to replace Jason Culina in the starting line-up to face Uzbekistan in a World Cup Qualifier. Burns won the praise of Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek for filling in for a virus-striken Culina at the last minute and performing admirably alongside Carl Valeri in defensive midfield in the side's 1-0 win in Tashkent. He gained his tenth cap as a second-half substitute in a 2-1 win over Japan in the World Cup qualifying tie on 17th June 2009, and his eleventh came in a 1-0 win over Indonesia, in an Asian Cup qualifier in Brisbane in March 2010. He had a successful 2009-10 season with Perth Glory, playing twenty-four A-League games and scoring two goals. He followed this up with another twenty-four in his second season with the club in 2010-11. He retired on 5th April 2014 after playing one hundred and fourteen games for Perth Glory. The Highlight of his Perth career was probably in defeat, as the Glory fought their way to the 2011-12 Grand Final winning the semi-final on penalties with Burns scoring the final deciding spot-kick. He went on to score thirteen goals in one hundred and thirty-seven starts in the League and was a part in all the club's success in the European Cup as well as the English League First Division Championship and Cup achievements until Leeds offered £400,00 and a lucrative wage to entice him to Elland Road in October 1981. He was made captain but failed to stop United's decline and relegation from the First Division. He did not play many Reserve games but was absent through injury and, after going on loan to Derby County in March 1983, where he scored once in six starts and one game from the bench, he signed for them in February 1984 after scoring twice in fifty-six League games at Elland Road, two of which were as a substitute. He went on to score once in thirty starts and one game from the bench for the Rams.
