Allaway

Shaun

2000-2004

Gk

Reading

16-02-1983

Shaun was a highly rated England Youth International, when Leeds beat off opposition from Tottenham Hotspur to sign him for £350,000 in March 2000. Unfortunately his broken hand, which deterred Spurs from signing him, mean he spent several months on the sidelines. He signed a four and a half year contract, but with Nigel Martyn, Paul Robinson and Danny Milosevic ahead of him in the pecking order, he never fulfilled his potential and was loaned out to Grimsby Town in August 2002 and Walsall in November 2003. The emerging Scott Carson also was ahead of him and played in the only game in which Allaway featured, on the bench for United’s final game in the EPL at Chelsea in May 2004. His contract was not renewed in June 2004. He had unsuccessful trials with Queens Park Rangers before signing a week-to-week contract with Slough Town, who wanted him for their televised FA Cup tie against Walsall. He took the gamble of dropping down because he thought the televised game would put him back in the shop window. It did. Wrexham tried to sign him but Slough would not release him from the three-month contract he had just signed. Because of that, he left The Rebels after twenty-five games and started the season at Staines despite Conference clubs Tamworth and Gravesend wanting to offer him contracts. He rejected their overtures because he did not want to be tied to a contract in case a League club came in for him and when that didn't happen he took matters into his own hands. He wrote to several clubs before Christmas and was offered trials by Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United and Shrewsbury Town. Allaway, who played for England at all levels from Under-Fifteens to Under-Twenties, decided on Wycombe Wanderers because of a past association with John Gorman and in January 2006 he was given a week's trial by Wycombe Wanderers. He returned to Staines Town, scoring once in tenty-nine starts in the 2006-07 season and also found limited fame, when on 12th November 2007 Staines were featured on Sky Sports in an F.A. Cup Replay at home to Stockport County. Not only did this result in a £75,000 windfall for each club, but Staines Town completed the improbable upset as they won the match in a penalty shoot-out after the tie had ended 1-1 after extra-time. This was mainly due to two magnificent saves by Allaway which saw the Swans prevail in the penalty shoot-out by 4-3. He was the first choice keeper with Staines until his injury jinx again struck. He damaged his knee ligaments in a game at AFC Hornchurch barely two months after saving those two penalties in the shoot-out. It was hoped that, after almost two and a half years on the side-lines, he might make a come-back with Staines Town for the 2010-11 season. This did not happen, as the club and Allaway decided that it would be better if he made a come-back after he was fully fit. After being loaned to Abingdon United in 2010-11, he was given the No.1 jersey for the 2011-12 season and came through the pre-season friendlies unharmed, but his injuries still stopped any further appearances. He still trained with Staines and, in late October 2010, he was on the verge of signing for Reading Town but in early November he decided to remain at Staines. In the 2012 close season he signed for Thatcham Town.(Leeds United Player Details)

Starting as a trialist on 18th February 1922 from Prudhoe Castle, he made his debut on that day. He soon proved his worth and was signed on professional terms in the 1922 close season. While he only made two League appearances without scoring, he went on to impress in the United Reserves, always as an Outside Left, but he was released at the end of the 1923-24, when he went to Brentford. He had a highly successful career, mostly as a Centre Forward with the Bees, Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United where he won an F. A. Cup winners' medal. He later played with Bristol Rovers for a short time before returning to his native North-East to finish his League career with Gateshead and then on to Ashington.(Leeds United Player Details)

Thought to be a trialist, he was twice unused on the bench before debuting as an eighty-fifth minute substitute in the third game at Everton on 11th September 1990. He did not make the teamsheet in the fourth game but started the fifth game and played all but three minutes of it. He came on as a substitute and played nine minutes of the sixth game and started the seventh and played fifty-eight minutes, but that amounted to his career at Leeds and he did not play any other League football.

Stanley, Nr Wakefield

02-12-1937

A product of local football, he joined United from Outwood Juniors on 14th December 1954, when just seventeen. He had the adaptability to be able to play in most forward positions and score regularly. He progressed through the United Juniors, "A" team and Reserves, mostly at outside left or centre forward, but later featured more as an inside forward. Like most players of his age he served his National Service and at 5ft 9ins and 11st he was ideally built for his roles. He never made the first team but became a regular in the reserves, however, on 14-12-1954, he left Leeds for Shrewsbury Town, in search of regular senior football. He never really found it, but did score eight goals in twenty-nine League games at Gay Meadow before moving to Wrexham in May 1961. There he scored thirteen goals in twenty-one League games but soon returned to Yorkshire with York City in November 1962, scoring three goals in twelve League games. He did not stay long at Bootham Cresent, joining Southport in July 1963, where he failed to find the net in eleven League games before retiring at the end of the season.

He moved from IF Skjold Birkerod to Brondby IF in July 1995, mostly as deputy to Mogens Krogh, and stayed there until January 2000 when he moved to Farum Boldklub (FCN II).
